Manufactured home insurance
“Manufactured” is the HUD-code term for factory-built homes constructed after June 15, 1976. They’re built to a federal code, transported to site, and installed on a permanent or semi-permanent foundation. They’re typically insured by specialty carriers, not standard HO-3 markets.
Why specialty carriers
Carriers like Foremost, Assurant, American Modern, Kin, and Allstate’s manufactured-home book understand the construction details that matter — tie-down systems, wind zones, HUD tag verification, transport coverage — and price for them.
HUD tag & wind zone
Every manufactured home has a red HUD certification tag on the exterior. It tells underwriters when and where the home was built and what wind zone it’s rated for (I, II, or III). Carriers use this to verify the home is appropriate for your location.
